Cistern slow to fill

The toilet takes a really long time to refill and having looked at all sorts of videos on You Tube and discussions on this site, I thought I might be able to sort it out....only the system I've got doesn't look like any others Ive seen on aforementioned videos! I can't figure out how to open it up to check. Any assistance provided to this idiot will be greatly appreciated. Picture attached.

Thanks, but just to clarify, I'm not looking for a diagnosis. I need help about how to get in and check the valves/washers etc. I don't know if there's a particular trick I'm missing as brute force doesn't do it, or if there's a specific tool I need.
 
1) Check that the supply is isolated
2) Unscrew the knurled assembly - the horizontal part at the front, anti-clockwise. A pair of grips might help if it's tight.
