Hi all,

We are redoing a bathroom. Reached the floor boards and under.
We have noticed that the toilet clay drain is damaged, look at the pictures.
How do we fix that? Do we have to call a drain specialist? Can we do it ourselves and how? Maybe it does not need to be repaired!?
Please tell me.

As Andy above replace what is left of these joists.

From what I can see, not too clear? but the damaged collar appears to be some sort of an add on to another type of pipe?? is the pipework below the damaged collar also clay??

Ken

Yes, I know they are rotten and they'll be replaced.
But what about the broken pipe?

Does this run internally? I’d possibly be looking at moving it externally.

The pipe is all clay going into the soil. The collar is part of the pipe, also in clay.

Is it a collar within a collar?? or is the collar splitting awa from the rest of the clay pipe?

You can see it has a circumferential crack.

Andy

You mean about 2 inches from the top? If it is a crack then I suppose we have to replace. Correct?

I saw some videos for replacing a section of clay waste with plastic pipe and a rubber flexible coupling. Could we use this to attach a plastic pipe vertically after cutting the clay pipe below the crack?

There are a number of further suggestions that come to mind ref this situation - advice that down the line might save the OP frustration and money?
However, i advised the OP on 16th march 2020 with a short list of observations and suggestions - the OP neither thanked me nor acknowledged my reply.
