Cleaning a wooden kitchen worktop

Hi
Can anyone tell me what i can use to clean a wooden kitchen worktop after i have given it a light sand prior to it being re oiled.
Not sure what wood it is.
I remember using Methylated spirits on my floor boards when i was re varnishing them but not sure if this is wise on a worktop.
