Can I just grout the areas which need grouting without scraping it out? It was only grouted about a year ago and I'm just wondering if I smooth in a small amount of grout where it's needed would be sufficent?

It's not a fun task raking grout out but you really should try and give the new grout a recess to get into. You don't need to get it all out though.
Oh and use the powdered stuff that you need to add water to (not premixed).

dont spot patch it,it will look awful , rake out the grout an regrout as gcol says ..
