Hi,

We have 2 attic bedrooms in our house and they both are quite cold. We have invested in additional 50mm insulation, new velux blinds and this has only made a minor difference. When i took up the floor recently i noticed that under the floor there was a load of rockwool insulation between the timbers. My basic understanding is that this shouldn't be there as it is preventing the heat from downstairs rising up to the bedroom. Is that right? Would removing this help with the room temperature comfort? Many thanks

To make a room warm you need to simply balance the heat loss with the heating. If you've done what you can to minimise heat loss then maybe consider larger radiators.

50mm of insulation is not much, 100% better than nothing, but still only 50mm.

The quality of fitting is also important (i.e. if it is between rafters, how tight fitting it is).

Removing floor joist insulation will allow more heat into the room, but it will allow more heat-loss overall, and that insulation also helps to soundproof the floor.

May be better to just add more heat to those rooms (or more insulation).
