Hi!

I have a combi boiler in my loft with a cold feed from downstairs. This runs through my old airing cupboard on the landing. I want to insert a t piece in the airing cupboard to provide cold water supply to the the back of my house where I am installing washing machine. I can turn the water off at the mains and understand I have to switch off the boiler. Is there any way I can drain the water from the pipe above the airing cupboard so it doesn't come out when I cut into the pipe? Would turning on the hot tap in the bathroom help? If so, do I do this before switching off the boiler or afterwards? If I can't drain it, is the only answer lots of towels? It's about a 10 meter length of pipe - am I to expect a flood?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Switch off boiler

Turn off water at mains

Open any cold (mains fed) tap downstairs, and if poss slacken cold feed connector to boiler to allow air in to pipe, (it will then drain)

Bingo, one empty pipe to work with.

Can you not tee off somewhere nearer downstairs?
