hi all.
i have a glow worm back boiler.which isn`t kicking in till i put it on maximum gas.
all my downstairs rads are cold all hot upstairs(has been happening on and off for last week)
went to have a bath lastnight and water wasn`t as hot as usual either.
bled all the rads.
is it the pump?i undid the screw on top and water came out(no air)is it seized?is it all the sh*t in the system blocking it?can i free it somehow?
what will happen if take top off?
cheers
a very cold person with a nagging wife

You don't mean maximum gas, you mean that you raised the thermostat setting, which means the boiler will get hotter before it cuts out.

Classic indication of worn/faulty/inoperative pump.

went to have a bath lastnight and water wasn`t as hot as usual either.
If you have a pumped DHW primary, then this also points to a pump problem.

bled all the rads.
Why?

is it the pump?
That's where my money is going.

i undid the screw on top and water came out(no air)is it seized?
Who knows? Is the spindle turning?

is it all the sh*t in the system blocking it?
Why have you got sh*t in the system?

can i free it somehow?
Turn the spindle with a screwdriver.

what will happen if take top off?
Not much, but if your wife takes her top off then something will almost certainly happen.

i din`t mean the thermostat m8,thats situated on the stairs wall.
i meant the one under the ugly old fire in front of the back boiler, which has off and min to max on.
having read the plate on the fire its for the flow of gas.

and what do`s this mean?

That's a room thermostat. I was talking about the boiler thermostat.

I bow to your greater knowledge.

and what do`s this mean?

It means:

If the water that passes through the coil in the cylinder is pumped, rather than circulating by convection (aka gravity), then lack of flow on this circuit indicates that the pump is not pumping adequately.
