Combi Boiler fires when using cold feed to washing machine

Hi, newbie to plumbing here. Just changed my washing machine from a dual feed (hot and cold) to a cold only feed. Plumbed it in this morning and tried it out, however, I noticed the boiler fire. My first thought is that I had the feed pipe on the wrong pipe.

I did have a leak on the hot pipe when we took the old machine away, it dropped a bucket and a half over night. Could that be anything to do with it?

Are you sure that the machine is connected to the right pipe?

What boiler is it?

Perhaps a check valve on the boiler feed will help.

It turns out the red and blue valve taps were the wrong way round....no wonder my gas bills were always high, drawing in hot water instead of cold and vice versa lol
