I live in a small semi which shares a mains supply with next door - we are 2nd in the chain. I am thinking of installing a combination boiler to save space. Is this feasible with a shared water supply?

Depends on flow rates and the water pressure. Phone your water authority to ask what th pressure is in your area. Hope for 3.5 bar or more.
Turn your kitchen cold and garden taps on full, measure how much water you get in a minute. Hope for more than 20-25 litres. Now ask you neighbour to turn HIS cold on full and measure yours again. Hope for no difference.

If it's a CHAIN then others may have an effect too.
