I have a 3/4" to 15mm compression elbow for my concealed shower head and unfortunately slipped with the grips when tightening and caught the thread on the 3/4" end, putting a couple of nicks in there.

Is this anything to worry about - should I replace it or will PTFE tape 'fix' it.

Cheers

As Seco says, you would have to do one heck of a lot of damage to a 3/4" BSP thread before it would fail to support a shower head, and the water is kept in by applying loads of PTFE tape anyway.

Just check the fitting runs onto the damaged thread OK 'dry'. If it does, remove it, apply PTFE tape and finish assembling it.

If it doesn't, or the threads tend to 'cross', lightly dressing the damage with a small file is usually enough to teach it better manners.

I cannot understand why people choose to use grips instead of proper spanners. Perhaps I should say there are some spanners that choose to use grips.
