I have some precautionary underpinning to do before an extension adds a second floor to an existing wall. It's only about 1m2 so planning to mix on site.

Gone quite cold at the moment & wondering what the minimum temp is to be mixing concrete. It's in sheltered position if that helps.

Thanks in advance

Below ground isn't too bad as long as it ain't silly temp's.

If you have something to cover it over and some insulation or old dust sheets then use 'em, just whilst it cures.

Basically all you are aiming to do it make sure it doesnt freeze before its fully gone off.

I poured strip footings on the day before the snow hit last month - the concrete company just made sure that there was a slightly higher quantity of cement in the mix which means that it gives off more heat during the chemical reaction as it sets; there only other advice was to cover it in hessian to stop the frost really penetrating.

They were of the opinion that even if frost got at it, it would only ruin a small amount on the top of the footing, the rest would still be fine.
