Condensing boiler - heating & water on at the same time

We have a condensing boiler - don't use the timer, just turn heating/water on as and when required. I put both on at the same time first thing in the morning for an hour or so. Perhaps a silly question, but would this work out more expensive than just turning one of them on? We do have a thermostat.

Just how much control you apply will determine the amount of fuel that you use.
