Hi all,
I have planned to install 2 light switches and ceiling roses in a newly built AND PLASTERED extension.
Before it was plastered I ran 2 twin and earth 1.5mm cables to each switch and left them loose in the loft for connection to the existing lighting circuits at a later date. That "later date" has now arrived.
I assumed that I would wire as follows:-
LIVE feed to switch via 1 cable juction boxed in the loft to existing circuit.
ROSE cable to switch.

I have been told that this is incorrect and that the LIVE and the SWITCH cables should be joined at the rose.

Can anyone help please???

Thanks

Its normal practice to take the power to the rose then drop down to the switch from there, but what you have done is perfectly ok, some electricians will loop in at the switches rather than the roses.

In each switch, live from the power cable to com, live from the rose cable to L1, join the neutrals with connector block, take the earths to the earthing point, doesn't really matter if you get the lives the other way around on the switch, it just seems somehow 'neater' to do it the way I have described.

The usual and easiest way is to take the feed to each rose in turn (called the 3 plate system) but as you have gone to th expense of running 2 cables to each switch you can take the supply to each switch instead.
Use one cable as your feed, connect red/brown to switch and black/blue to connector block.
Feed cables will need to connected together in loft in a JB
