Our current cooker (now 15 years old) is in need of replacement. It is connected to the mains gas via a short black flexible hose that connects to the gas pipe via what can be best described as a bayonet type fitting.

When we get a new cooker I assume it will have a similar hose, so would it be OK to simply turn off the gas at the mains, un-plug the old and plug in the new, or do I still need to pay £60 for a corgi fitter to do the same ?

The new cooker won't come with a cooker hose already attached, you will need a corgi to come and attach a new hose and connect, commision and tightness test the installation.

Shouldn't cost more than an hours labour plus a cooker hose.

Not forgetting a stability bracket/chain of course.

And also checking that the clearances are OK for the new cooker.

Thanks guys for the input, my how things have changed since we got the last cooker !

Maybe I should see if we can get a new oven door and seal for the Parkenson Cowan and give that a new lease of life :)

AhA, working on a gas appliance, eh?
Door seals could affect safety.
Got to be corgi registered then, isn't it.
