RCD protection for the cable is a good idea. 100mA at the house and 30mA at the business end for final circs.

All this b*lls about connecting the spade with the armour is total tripe...the cable should be buried 400mm down in duct, with warning tape above it. This will prevent a spade even getting a sniff of the cable.
Surely that has to be better than relying on your half-baked theory about contact between spade and earth for safety?
The whole point about burying cable is that it should be done with a view to avoiding damage to that cable. If it can't be seen, it should be out of harm's way.
