Without knowing, its blown cavity wall insulation, and its got in through the hole into the cavity that the cables pass through, I've seen them half full of !polystyrene! beads before too.
 
Yeah, it's a bit difficult to get from the outside of a house to the inside without going through a cavity. Though I tend to put a PVC conduit through first.
 
Spot on Click-sure. The unit is mounted on an integral garage cavity wall and the insulation was blown into the cavity at some stage years ago.
The property is @ 40yrs old and it was common practice to run cables in the cavity, I used to do it myself!
