Hi all

I'm having a really tough time replacing my cooker hood and trying to find one with the right specs (the total height can't be more than 600mm).

The ones I've found at a suitable height seem to come with 13amp plugs, but from the pics I assume mine is hard wired from the pics (next to the cooker hood are also recess lights so I don't know if the green transformer relates to the hood).

Any advice on options? I would of course get anything done by an electrician.

Provided that the hard-wired hood is fed from a fused spur unit, or has another appropriate protection method, then replacing it with one which has a 13A plug is fine - your electrician will just cut off the plug, and wire it into the junction box which you can see in two of the pictures. The fuse in the 13A plug is there to (a) stop you from drawing more than 13A and damaging the socket, and/or ring mains wiring, and (b) to protect the cable to the appliance from overheating in the event of a fault in the appliance. Provided the existing supply has equivalent protection (which it SHOULD have!), cutting off the plug is fine.

Have you got a switch above the worktop to switch it on and off or is just the hoods own switch used ?

The Green transformer looks like a Transformer for a 12 volt light, more likely seperate from the cooker hood, though your pic looks like it shows a mains voltage Gu10 light fitting
