The one posted earlier will do you a continuity check.
There are a couple of methods to do the test.
No need to crawl about in loft unless, that is where your consumer unit is.
Normal method is to identify your circuit at the CU.
Then isolate using safe isolation procedures and prove circuit is dead.
Then remove the conductors(earth, live, neutral) for that circuit.
Link the earth and live together at CU in a connection terminal.
Then with meter set at low ohms (Ω test at the appliance across live and earth (r1+r2) again with conductors disconnected from the appliance. Expect a reasonable low reading less than 1Ω.
The other method would be to connect a long lead/wander lead (conductive cable) to the earth of circuit at either the appliance or at CU. Then take a measurement at one end of the long lead and the opposite end of circuit. The measurement should be recorded and an end to end test on the long lead made, this is then deducted from your overall reading. this will give you r2.
If any loads are on this circuit, it would be advised to remove them from circuit prior to tests.
