Cooker Installation

My existing electric cooker is installed in the corner of the kitchen, only 1-2cm from the wall and, on the other side, 1cm from the washing machine. There is nowhere else in the 2x3 metre kitchen for the cooker to go.

Is this installation illegal in the UK?

Why do you think it would be?

Mainly because I've never seen a cooker in the corner of a kitchen, even ones smaller than mine.

My MIL's has been like that for 40 years without any problem (not the same cooker of course) & there is no regulation says it is not OK as far as I am aware.

Thank you. I've chosen a new cooker and downloaded the manufacturer's installation guide. 1.5cm is needed.
