Hell, just toss a coin. Either option will still be a disaster, but at least fate will have made the choice for you.

There were 4 bodges like that on a 3mtr section of pipe!!

Try this one - main foul backed up and gullies overflowing. Inspection cover found and, right next to it - a nice new concrete fence post.

CCTV showed polythene bag protruding into the line.

The fence post had been cut short and was surrounded by a patch of concrete about 2' x 2' and then covered with earth.

The fencer had managed to hit both the surface water line (single point bit hole) and the foul water line (broken about 180mm of the line, covered it with a wrapper from a loaf of bread, backfilled with rubble and then cut the fence post short and poured a pile of concrete around the shortened post (less than 10" of post actually below surface). The householder contacted the fencer who denied all knowledge of the issue

Most liars think they are convincing enough to get away with it, and then breathe a sigh of relief when they don't get shouted at. They know that the other persons knew they were lying, but they've got away with the confrontation, and they'll push the lie to the back of their minds
