hi all,
my girlfriend has a 2001 corsa1.0 petrol, when the car is warmed up and idling the oil light comes on but if you put your foot on the accelerater and rev the engine it goes out it is like the engine is idling to slow.anybody knows why the oil light comes on and what needs to be done, many thanks,ps plenty of oil in it.

Try changing the oil pressure switch, if that doesn't cure it you will need an oil pressure test done. This could result in having to clean the pump filter or renewing the pump.

;)

If the oil has not been changed recently, get it changed with a new oil filter. If the oil pressure light still flickers at tick over, add a tin of STP Engine Oil treatment.

Get the car warm and heat the tin of STP under the hot tap, then just enpty it into the engine.

That should cure it

There is an internal wire mesh filter in the oil sump that may be partially blocked, but its internal not easily fixed.
If not you will have to start spending money on the engine as it has excessive internal wear. As the previous post said get the oil pressure checked and take it from there. You might be lucky and it maybe the oil pressure switch. But they usually fail completely and the oil light never goes out.
