I'd like to convert my loft space to have a study floor, so I can use it for storage. I'd read that you shouldn't just board out the loft, directly on top of the joists as you'll end up with cracked/sagging ceilings below. Do I need to create some form of suspended floor?

What's the best approach? Can I do it myself?
