It is the substitute for creosote and from when I've used it has been just as effective; it still smells the same

You cannot buy or even legally use creosote these days I believe, it is really nasty stuff, highly effective, but highly carcinogenic.

It smells the same and works great.
Gives a good colour too. I have just used it on a gate and 2 panels.
