Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on my fuse box problem Ive just noticed :- my kit is

a 10w CU with 63A RCD split and 100A DP switch

I have 6 MCBs all on the non RCD side .. ? before I moved in..
which are

6A - upst lights
6A - Dn lights
16A - Shed pwr,imersion heater
32A Upstairs Ring
32A Dnstairs Ring
50A cooker

the problem is the dnstairs 32A its getting hot to the touch at certain times ie kettle on, baby steriliser but cools fast once these things go off - takin the lid off I see 2 lives going to the the MCB one has about 1/2" of damaged/melted insulation so something is wrong .. the MCB has never tripped out either any suggestions before I get a sparky in ?

It's very likely you have a faulty MCB, the load you have stated shouldn't be enough to cause the kind of fault you're discribing. Suggestion, replace the MCB without delay.

Cheers for the prompt reply - I've just been to B&Q and got one (a Wylex) 32A and just fitted it (says only for wylex - but was a perfect fit..) my original MCB was GEC - so far so good no heat , but I did also notice the wires werent mega tight in the live clamp..

Hi,

Just to add to the other replies.

You say that the wires wernt tight in the clamp. If the wires are lose this would almost certainly cause overheating in the MCB. THis also applies to socket connections, light fittings, and basically anything else electrical with a screw terminal. Also the screw should not be overtightened, as this would cause the wire to become damaged and cause the same problem.

Hope this has helped.
