Hi im after some advice on whether it would be possible to cut out the top panels of our front door to add glass and make the hallway alot brighter?

Ive emailed 2 glaziers who say it's not possible?

Timber door , any half decent joiner could do that. Simply a case of cutting the bead or moulding away on the inside replace panel with glass and either replace mouldings or at worst knock up some new. Done it myself in the past to put in glass panels and also to replace damaged timber panels with new.

or more likely composite, either way probably just a foam core so probably not a goer

if its a timber door then no problems at all doing what you want.
if its any other material,if it were mine i would still give it a go.
but thats me.

definately possible but you would need a moulding in 2 parts on all 4 edges that would finish up on the inner and outer face and cover the core off the door
they would have to purpose made mitred and the back screwed to the front section
it would need a moulded lip on the front for the glass to sit against
it would also need to be thick enough for the mechanical fixings through the beading to hold the glazing in place
disadvantiges
frame would have to be very chunkie to give the screws enough meat to go in and hold strongly
your timber would be over the face by around 12mm so if your door is say 44mm you will have a further 24mm
the work would invalidate any gtee on the door
your insurance may be invalidated
it may be impossible to get water tight

sorry this shoud be on the same post as the quote
