Daft idea for building shelving unit?

i always overdo it

if its all books then staggering is not best as the load at the front edge will push down mid span on the shelve below although the back will hep with most off the weight

if its well screwed together the back will support the dividers to stop most off the load transferring to the front edge

Thanks big-all

Would the approach you suggested on the other forum (re distance between screws) hold good here - ie every couple of inches?

I'm loath to forgo staggering the uprights so I think I'll just add more.

Thoughts on number of screws (to make it well screwed together) would be appreciated. Then I'll leave you in peace!

Thanks again

no to many otherwise you will split the wood
3 over 6 inches 4 over 8 5 over 10 ect so yes every 2 inches

i would also experiment with screw size and hole size because your talking chipboard perhaps a 4mm pilot on a no8 0r a no 6 on 3.5mm pilot hole
