Hiya,

My build has 3x single steps in different parts; one up as you enter the garden from the front gate, then one down to a lower platform, then one up to the back garden gate.

I'm not sure whether to sit the first tread flush with the 'down' board or have a slight over hang, maybe 20mm or something; ie the width of one of the grooves in the Travis decking I have.

Is there a recommendation (must do's and must not do's) or is just whatever you'd prefer?

Flush-ish. The overhang wont do anything other than catch a toe on the way up.

IMHO

Yeah that's what I thought, but (not that I need them) instructions online show an overhang (aka nose) on the stringer treads.

in my humble opinion a slight over lap (couple of cm) on the step to the stringer may serve no purpose but it looks nicer
