Difference between Isolating and Full-Bore Isolating Valve?

Pretty self-explanatory really. Full bore valves have the same bore as the pipe they're attached to. The others have a much smaller bore and so provide some restriction to flow

the other difference is that the 10-pack of cheapies are low quality. I've found they sometimes leak if touched, and sometimes leak for no discernible reason. I've even known one start leaking badly after a nearby floorboard was nailed down, and that was on a low-pressure pipe. A lot of plumbing stuff is unbranded so you have no guide to quality.

I have now resolved to use only the Pegler full-bore valves, which are more expensive, until you factor in the cost and time of dealing with a leak. For some reason Screwfix sells the red ones a pound cheaper than blue ones.

I am a householder not a plumber, so the number of valves I buy in a typical year costs an insignificant amount.

Why would someone require a restriction to flow in this way?

I can only find these Pegler 15mm isolators on ScrewFix:

I don't know if these are the red or blue which you refer to?

Does the colour difference which you mention indicate that there is a different valve for hot or cold water?

Very often they dont realise they are creating a restriction, until they come here saying their plumbing alteration is suffering from pish poor water flow. Happens a lot when euro high pressure taps/showers combined with a restrictive isolation valve are fitted.

I think you're referring to these:

If this is correct, I wouldn't have spotted these on the SF website as they are referred to as ball valves as opposed to isolator valves. When isolator valves are typed in, it brings up other products.

I remember buying some "full bore" lever valves online, but when compared to the Altecnic's I bought from a local plumbing shop, you could clearly see they weren't quite full bore. So not all full bore's are equal either.

I prefer to use gate valves on everything.

So, like that pictured below?

Are these considered to be more secure to use as an isolator valve rather than the more common ballofix variety?
