Hi,

We had the first fix work carried out. A few 2 way switches were missed when we questioned which switch did what etc, the job ran on for a couple of days longer than he had envisaged. But otherwise all OK. Registered professional electrician.

The 2nd fix price has come in at about three times the original 'estimate', and not far off 50% more than 1st fix. The spec has not changed.

Can we use a different electrician for the 2nd fix? (If we can find one to take it on). How would this work with certification & building control?

thanks

Mark

It would seem odd that the first guy appears to have priced the first fix, had it accepted, carried out the work and then priced the second fix.... seems a very strange way to work!

You would be unlikely to get a competative quote for the second fix from someone else, the job would generally appear to have trouble written over it and prices would be inflated to cover for trouble to to avoid the job.

As far as the electrical regulations go you can have different people but I have taken over a job due to illness and it was a nightmare finding one socket had been covered by plaster board and trying to locate where it was.

I was still working for the same firm as other guy and so there was no pricing problem for customer. And since before Part P two signatures on the installation certificate was not a problem.

Today an electrician taking over the work would have a problem with a compliance certificate as he clearly can't submit some one else's work to his scheme provider.

If designed that way from the start using the LABC then yes a completion certificate could be issued but halfway through a job would likely mean it would have to go through the LABC and would attract their fees.
