Dimmer Switch Wiring

I do beleive it does apparently mean variable output, yet many here suggest to ignore the instructions and want to stick the Live in it, do you recall the switch thread

Ah - I'll blame my Friday evening refreshments :) I did wonder whether you were talking about the actual symbol or riveralt's attempt to approximate it - hence the question at the start of my post!

No, I don't think I recall any thread about this but, as I implied, and particularly in the absence of a neutral, I can't really see how there can be any distinction between the 'in' and 'out' of such a device - all it can do is chop the current, which obviously must be the same in both conductors.
