I've got a 6 year old Bosch dishwasher. It switches on every night by timer whilst I get my beauty-sleep. Recently I have been awakened every night, part way through the 1 hour cycle by a banging noise which I hear from my bedroom. It seems to go on for about 30 or 40 seconds at 2 second intervals. I've rushed downstairs but can't hear much more than usual. My limited knowledge makes me wonder if it is water-hammer somewhere in the pipes, when the machine is filling with water.
Could this be true and why would it keep banging for 30 seconds? I'm worried some damage is being done and I might be faced with a night time flood. Any ideas as to the cause and is it ok to just stuff cotton wool in my ears?
