Dishwasher/ washing machine y outlet

The cold water feed for the washing machine needs to accommodate the dishwasher. I bought a Y plastic adaptors and it leaked very badly, bought a better quality one (made of slightly harder plastic) but it also leaks, although not so much. I have tried tighten them lightly at first and progressively more, but they just don't seem to work.
I can't find any better ones.
Any suggestions?

Have you got the rubber seal in the end and the ones on the hoses.

Is is actually leaking where it connects to the tap (feed) rather than the hose. Yes, there is a washer, and I screwed it on carefully to not ruin the thread as I did it with the previous one.

Have you tried ptfc tape round the thread it might have scale built up on it.

no I haven't tried that. I'll try that then...
