Hi,
Just after some advise with sub base materials. It's a large area roughly 90m2 where I will be laying 125mm sub base and then a layer of loose decorative stone.

The sub base needs to be permeable so standard mot type 1 is no good. Has anyone used the mot type 1 reduced fines as an alternative especially as I'm struggling to get the type 3, or am I better with 4/20 grades sub base.

Thanks

Bit confused..
By permeable you mean Allows water to pass through..
Mot type 1 is frost prof so doesnt absorb water but will allow water to pass through to the sub base.

Type one limestone is similar but type one is just better.

Best base is type 1 mot granite for a shingle drive.

If your on clay and have water drainage problems you may need to look at a drain, which may require permission from the local authority, unless you can drain to another part of your land, lawn ect.

90m2 at 125mm plus topping is a good soak away in that water has plenty of area to disperse.

Hi, thanks for the response.
Been struggling to find a type 3 but can get 4/20 limestone.
What's it like to compact as there's no fines, especially with there being a layer of gravel/loose decorative stone on top.
