I have converted the loft and in there I have made four opening for storage. I have put the doors on what I made and have put the hinges on the top so they open upwards. I want to know what I need to get so when I open the doors upwards they lock in that position on a catch of some sort so they dont keep falling shut.

One way to achieve this is to use a counter flap catch.

However, you may be able to position a turnbuckle above each door in a suitable position, which would work out much cheaper. You could make your own from wood. A rebate in each wooden turnbuckle would provide the clearance needed.

I was thinking more like those things what are on wardrobe top doors sometimes but do not know what they was called.

a friction stay, perhaps?

a lot depends on how much you want to spend.

A magnetic latch might do if they are light.

I have already put normal small hinges on can I add these type of hinges as well at a later date or will the small hinges have to be removed ?
