Hi,
We have a small dorma window on the top floor of the house, i think the type of dorma is called a chocolate box and is small with a little apex roof. What i want to know is can i remove this and put the roof back to how it was and put a couple of large velux windows in instead. My reason is that the dorma has seen better days and is single pain glass and lot of the wood frame is not great. I think that by time i was to fix the dorma with new frame etc it would have been cheaper to put a couple of large velux windows in. They will give me more light and and wider opening for cool air in summer.
What i want to know is,
Is it that a big a job to get rid of the dorma and do what i want to do and also would i require planning etc to do this.
Thanks Lee

Back to the question , yes you can take it off and put velux in, by trimming them into the existing opening; however, you will also need additional tiles, felt and battens. Lot of work, why not just upgrade what's there?
