Hi,

Hope someone can help. I currently have a radiator on one side of the room which I want to move to make way for a new kitchen table. The easiest place for me to move the radiator is to below a double socket which is located half way up the wall (a hang over from where there used to be work surface with sockets running along the wall 150mm above it).

The socket will be 260mm above the top of the radiator. Is this allowable or is there some reg which states minimum distance sockets should be from a radiator.

Thanks.

you can leave it.

The PVC insulation life will be shortened by heat, but not enough to matter.

If you fit a radiator shelf it will reduce the hot airflow

It's not ideal. There is not a specific regulation as regards sockets and radiators but there are Regulations regarding wiring systems and external influences i.e. - external heat sources. The wording is vague - 'sufficiently far'.

As you have a choice over the matter and are taking the heat source to the radiator, one would have to question it.

The same Regs also refer to 'shielding' so the above advice regarding a shelf to divert the heat source would probably suffice.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I had been thinking about a shelf so from what you are saying that would seem a good idea and will defo go with one now.

Thanks again.

Have a look inside that socket to see if the cables go up or down.

Theoretically they should go horizontally or vertically from the socket but you can never tell for sure.

You'll need to be careful where you drill the holes for the rad support brackets if they go down.......
