Yesterday we purchased a new washer. Ive hooked it up, but the main drain line for the house is located about 6 feet directly above my washing machine. There is a U trap and a fitting coming off the end of the line that appears to be for the washer drain.

The set up requires me to drain the washer 5 feet above where the drain exits the washer.

I'm guessing when the drain cycle kicks off all the water in the house will drain back into the washing machine.

Should I install a check valve or one way valve right where it exits the washer?
