Hi,
I've bought some new ceiling lights, I've read the instructions and it says I need a no.8 size drill bit. This may sound daft but is a no.8 size drill bit 8mm? If not are these drill bit easily available? I've only noticed drill bit sizes in mm.

Thanks
Dan

A number 8 drill is 5 mm dia, this terminology is now seldom used.

What are you drilling into a joist ?

The dia of drill you need will depend on the size of the screw you are using.

Letter and number drills haven't been used for ages......its not the lamp cut out size you mean, is it?

Hi,
Sorry for a slow reply, its a bracket that screws to the ceiling then the light sort of clips onto the bracket. It's got screws and plugs with the light, it's going on a plaster board ceiling, am i best just screwing its up?

You cant just screw to plaster board, you will need a plug of some sort.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I found some long dry wall screws, I screwed straight through the ceiling an into the joist (I hope)
