We've installed roller blinds on all our windows (new-built flat - 2016 model)- DIY job rather than professionally installed. However, when we drilled the holes we hit some sort of metal after about 10-15mm. I decided not to keep drilling and instead cut up some plugs to the right length and used shorter screws.
It will come as no surprise that with continued use the roller blinds have occasionally detached (plugs and all) from the window frame, which has required a wider hole - albeit the same length.
Looking online I've found some people saying that the metal that I've found is a metal catnic beam and that one should drill through it with a special drill bit. However, I wanted to check that drilling through this beam won't cause any lasting damage (e.g. damage to the flat's insulation given that it is relatively energy efficient, future corrosion issues, etc.).
I attach a picture of the inside of one of the window frames and the outside of that same window, where one can clearly see a galvanised metal plate, which I reckon is pretty much at the same level as the metal obstruction I find when drilling, i.e. should be the same thing
