Hi Guys and sorry for any repetition here.

So I need to get my drive sorted and i'm not sure which is the best solution. Both my wife and myself prefer gravel but is it a pain to maintain? Personally we're not fussed about block paving as it wont suit our house but I hear people constantly moaning about weeds in gravel drives and having to rake it over all the time.

Anyone got any opinions?

Cheers.

Most I have spoken say to avoid block paving for various reasons. I’m going for an asphalt drive with an adjacent gravel parking area (we have a large drive) which is currently gravel but wasn't done properly & is in a bit of a mess. Both need a decent base though which prevents troughing & weeds taking hold in the gravel. Two of my neighbours’ have asphalt drives over a highway spec base & done by the same contractor who I will also be using; one has been down over 16 years & still looks good.

Be aware there are there new regulations covering driveways since 2008, this applies to both new & refurbished; http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/public/buildingwork/projects/workcommonpaving/
