Hi everyone,

I seem to have dry rot in my loft and was wondering what substances are best to use?

I've looked on the net and found Safeguards ProBor, is it any good and what are the alternatives?

Cheers

Hi,

It's grey like in colour, it's been picked up on our house survey and it's also been inspected by a timber treating specialist and they've both confirmed that it is dry rot.

I'd like to have thought that the specialist would have told you what to do....

I had a similar scare just a few days ago, where I found what I thought was dry rot. Turned out not be, and didn't need any treatment, but the advice given, if it had been dry rot, was:

1. Replace timber if possible and neccessary
2. Treat timber and surrounding timber with appropriate chemicals
3. Most importanly, improve conditions in the loft, namely ventilation and ensuring there is no water getting in.

My understanding of dry rot is it needs unventilated, slightly damp areas to grown in. If you remove those conditions, it can't grow......
