Can somebody tell me why the earthing tail is smaller in c.s.a than the phase and neutral tails (from the main head)? Should they ideally all be the same diameter?

the main earth cables are not meant to cary normal operating current

however it may still be too small

16mm is the required size for domestic sized TN-S and TN-C-S

for a TT you can have it much smaller as the rod can't cary much current anyway (thats why you need the main rcd)
