Packed in self employment a few weeks back, sold the tranny and bought a golf gt tdi 150. It was pretty quick to start with, but I got a bloke to remap the ECU yesterday and it's erm..... damn quick now. It's easily done on most vehicles after 1999 and shows greater gains on turbo diesel engines (around 45bhp for mine). If anyone is interested it's a guy that I know has been doing it for years, anyone interested can e-mail me for details. I have no financial interest in this company, I just wanted to share my experience with anyone that could benefit from it.

Would this work on a 2.0 petrol? What was the cost and can VW spot the change?

I see that the mods have edited my post to remove the link to the site. (may I ask why mods?) If you want to e-mail me about it, look on my profile for the e-mail address. I asked the guy about petrol cars, he said that you don't get as good a result from regular petrol engines. Turbo diesels benefit most.
The geezer did mine and my dad's car at the same time for a good discount cause he knows me and we were having two done at once.
You'll be looking at around £350 to get yours done, so for the small increase (probably around 15bhp) it wouldn't be worth it.

The change cannot be spotted unless you have the specialised gear and are specifically looking for it.

OK, cheers. Yep not really worth it for 350.

PS I don't think you can post links to anything commercial..

Whats the name of the Map? Was it Upsolute??

2.0L Non turbo will prob see only 5 - 8 BHP more power but the power delivery might feel smother after a map, biggest gains are from turbo engines such as my 1.8T golf that gained an extra 42BPH

VW would have to be on the ball to prove it has been mapped, the ECU checksum will change after a map but thats all.

I've no idea what the map was called - all I know is that it goes like mary hell and the traction control light gets more of a workout than it did. ;)

TURBOs easy power. Any NA might aswell get yours mods on first then map them all together

As the map is applied to the vehicle when it's turned off, it wouldn't make any difference. What I'm saying is that if you've got a turbo diesel and want a sh*t load more performance, get it remapped now. End of story.

Yup thats true..turbos easy power :!:  base maps are pletniufull for most standard turbo cars.. like blufin for fords and all the diesel maps liek u have had.

I was just saying about NA that an ecu wont get much alone. but with a few breathing mods will work with them and give a lot more power throughout.

Ah, I thought you were meaning that a remap would be more beneficial after other mods had been made. What i was trying to say is that it won't matter if you have the remap before or after other mods - it'll still be exactly the same because it'll adjujst to suit the state of tune.
