Electric Cable in bathroom

Can anybody please advise how to go about extending the grey mains cable?

- turning the mains off completely
- checking the existing cable with a multi-meter
- Stripping the new cable, and joining its elements to the old, with electrical tape?

Think I just found my own answer on this forum.

"
crimping. using a ratchet crimper (not a squeeze n hope one), apply insulated butt crimps in order to attach a new length of cable. Then apply heatshrink around the joins.

If you want to use that as the power source for the fan then TURN OFF, test for dead ( confirm the power is off ) and then replace that painted over box with a new FCU ( fused connection unit ).

That will enable you to make a safe connection between the existing cable to the new cable and that new cable and the fan it feeds will protected by the fuse in the FCU

However as you have written
- Stripping the new cable, and joining its elements to the old, with electrical tape?
you appear to lack the basic knowledge to work on electrical equipment and wiring.

Will get a sparky in.

Seems a shame for what looks like a basic job, hopefully he charges considerately.

Thanks for your help.
