However from the photo I can't make out if that is an iron barrel gas main & wiped lead water pipe in the photograph as well. Nice mix in there!

The vertical one by the Hager Im not sure, I assume it is water as you said because the one above is indeed a gas main, its acctually the second termination of that main you see in the photo, the gas meter being just below, they sure knew how to do things back then!
