We have no been fitted with water meters in our area, we are a fmaily of 5.

We currently have an electric shower 8.5Kw and a shower mixer tap for the kids hair the flow rate is very good.

My question is would it be cheaper to use a mixer shower for everyone or an eletric showe?

We have an immersion tank not combi boiler

Many Thanks

Do you mean the water charge because the water is now charged per unit?

It will probably be less than before so it doesn't matter.
It will probably be insignificant compared to the electricity bill depending on the water charges in your area. Some are reasonable, some are extortionate.

Electric shower will be cheaper than heating the cylinder.

Get a longer hose for the mixer tap and then you will have both (you said the pressure was good)

It's not really a straightforward, cut and dried answer. On water consumption, mixers will invariably use more water per minute than electric as electric showers slow the flow to enable the cold incoming water to be heated properly. In the scheme of things, this extra will pale into insignificance due to the electric shower's inefficient use of electricity.

However, if you can use the whole cylinder of heated water, the mixer will always be cheaper per litre to heat with gas. Each litre of water heated via gas in your cylinder will cost approx. a third of the water heated by elec. in your electric shower. If you can use all the water in your cylinder on showers and other hot water usage, this is the most economical way. However, if you are going to heat a whole cylinder for a single shower, then the electric shower will be cheaper due to using only the water you need and not leaving 3/4 of a cylinder of hot water going unused.

Personally I would use the mixer. Not only can it work out cheaper, but it will give a better flow and hence better shower than electric. An 8.5Kw electric shower will always be a poor showering experience.
