electric shower not working

Hi there I have just moved into a house only to find the shower is not working, when I power it up the light goes to red saying that its overheated, what could be causing this,

do i need to play about with the water flow or will i have to replace the thermostat.

Ask the previous owner what happened - i.e. in what way the shower failed.

Does water come out?

Sounds like a cut-out to me.....
