Hello
I want to put an electric socket in the shed a 3 plug should be enough.
1 for Light, 1 for radio, and 1 for a power tool.

The shed is 40ft away from the house.
heres a few questions if some one could help.

1,
Is there a type of casing thick casing for wire to stay above ground as I would prefer not to have to break the concrete path even if it means building a step up over the new wire.

2,
would I need to have this attached to my electrical board or can i have a trip fuse on the wall where it exits the building. along with a Fused triple socket at the shed.

3,
to provide power for teh above, would it be possible to take the supply off a wire that is supplying a socket already fitted inside the house= spare cupboard. (the socket inside the house will be running a freezer and on occasions a tumble drier.)

thank you for any tips
:) OJ

Found this bit in a search of threads but it has no link regarding the speacial extension lead?
I could run this lead from a spare plug socket?
Does any one know what extension lead this is refering to?

If you follow the instructions supplied to the letter you are not installing "fixed" wiring but essentially an extension lead, which happens to be made with SWA. And since Part P does not apply to extension leads it wouldnt not be notifiable. But yes, I agree if you extend a kitchen circuit using "fixed" wiring it IS notifiable.

You could of course use this special extension lead via a hard wired plug in RCD (which you buy as an addition to the kit) and plug that into ANY exsisting socket reguardless of its location, provided that the load isnt to high say under 1500-2000w.

If the load is gonna be in the 2kw or above I would suggest, as you do, a "proper" fixed wiring installation to cope with the load.

:( i thought he was seriouse?
Like an extension kit specificaly made for it.

Had thought about RCA extension lead run over the top of wooden posts 7 or 8ft high but the more i read the more i am seeing the real job.

have read a bit and enjoyed that so will read much much more tomorrow. Thanks for input today.

im going to bed while i still have a chance :)
