Electronic ignition clicking

A customer has rung saying that the electronic ignition on her gas cooker is constantly firing (clicking) and she has to switch it off at the wall.

What would cause that?

Is it, as I suspect one of the (maybe only one) buttons tracking when not pushed in? Maybe could be cleaned with contact cleaner, rather that replacing.

the button itself may be sticky due to food and grease deposits.
