We have a multifuel stove with two ash pans under the grate.
To stop the grate burning out I try to keep the level of the ash to a minimum and so empty it quite frequently.
Trouble is, as the ashes are hot when I lift the pan out and tip the ashes into a metal bucket the dust billows up with the heat, x2 with the two ash pans and it makes quite a mess in the living room...
I try to minimise it by opening the stove door so some gets sucked up the chimney, but most just settles around the room everywhere.
Whats the best way to stop this, I have seen the metal ash carriers boxes advertised and wondered if that was the best thing? Or is there a "fireproof" vacumn one could use?
What methods do other people employ when emptying the ashes out of a hot stove?
Cheers..
